¿Cómo puedo luchar contra el cambio climático?

How can I fight climate change?

Do you want to fight climate change and reduce your carbon footprint but feel overwhelmed by information and don't know where to start? Are you hesitant to switch to sustainable options that will affect your budget?

This post is for all the eco-conscious people out there trying to live more sustainably and save money while doing it ;). Stick with the 6 R's:

What you DO need (stick to the mantra less is more)

Reduce

Buy less, sell or donate what you don't use.

Save water: turn it off while you wash your face, wash your teeth, and take shorter showers.

Save electricity: TURN OFF your phone and computer as soon as they are fully charged. This will help minimise your carbon footprint and save you between €100 and €200 a year and help you fight climate change.

Eat more plant-based foods – for example, you could do meatless Mondays and replace meat with plant-based options that are high in protein (saving money at the same time).

Refuse and reuse

Reuse what you don't need (flyers, junk mail, gift bags...)

Carry a reusable water bottle with you at all times: If you simply switch out plastic water bottles for reusable water bottles, you can help reduce the staggering amount of 1 million plastic water bottles purchased every minute worldwide. The same goes for reusable coffee cups for all you caffeine lovers out there.

Use reusable bags and bring your own tote bags when you go shopping.

Replace

  • Buy high-quality items that last longer and opt for timeless looks with original accessories. It will change your way of thinking about clothing consumption 😉
  • Choose clothing brands and sustainable skin care and ethical (we've got you covered for that last one ;))
  • Buy locally, organically and seasonally, use public transport/bike/car sharing and try second hand clothes and furniture – tips for cleaning second hand clothes – Set your washing machine to a high temperature (around 40*C) and add 1/2 cup white vinegar (it will kill bacteria and keep clothes fresh)

Repair and recycle

Repair broken items before replacing them. Some clothing brands also offer repair services.

Fun fact: If every American skipped one chicken meal per week and ate a plant-based alternative instead, the result in terms of CO2 emissions would be the same as taking more than half a million cars off the road.
